Their egg production is pretty erratic. Thursday we got 6 eggs. Yay!! Friday he came in with these three. Quite a funny group.
I think he may have to go have another "talk" with them regarding them holding up their part of the bargain. ; )

One of These Things is Not Like the Other...
Our eldest boy has 13 hens; his "girls". He goes out to feed them and yells "giiirrrlllss" and they come running and follow him like a puppy dog. It's rather quite cute. Good thing he likes them. I think they look like Velociraptors with feathers.

Awww - I love that your son has chickens! That cute little brown egg is adorable. My girls are finally starting to lay again after mostly taking the winter off. We were getting only 3 - 4 a day until a couple of weeks ago when it jumped up to two dozen a day! Hopefully your son's girls will kick it up a notch pretty soon!
This is really funny...we have 13 laying hens too!! We got them last spring; our first time raising chickens. We have Dekalb Amberlinks and they have been WONDERFUL layers. Even here in our cold MN winter months, they have consistently layed 12-13 eggs a day. But we have the opposite problem illustrated in the photo of your egg basket...we have one girl out there who lays a behemoth double yoker a few times a week. We joke that she may be trying to tell us she wants an epidural to perform her little duty for us. Her eggs are as big as the palm of my hand, no kidding! Chickens are so much fun and I love all the learning that preparing for them and keeping them has offered to our home school. ~Kelly in MN
Basicliving -- It's funny how chickens take the winter off but our tummies don't. : )
Kelly -- We get some huge eggs but they rarely have double yolks. I feel so badly for those hens sometimes. Wondering what they're thinking..."Can I get an epidural over here?!" ; )
